The Municipality gets ready for the Festive Season
The four key departments of the Municipality made presentations on how they have prepared for an anticipated busy festive season to the Executive Committee held on the 17 November 2009.
Department of Protection Services, Cleansing and Maintenance, Human Settlement and Infrastructure and the Health and Community Services detailed their plans on how they intend to ensure that rate payers including a number of visitors expected to ascend to the South Coast enjoy their stay during the festive season holidays.
The Protection Services presentation covered plans on how they intend to control the flow of traffic especially in the Marine Drive hotspots for traffic congestion, enforcement of nuisance bylaws and dealing with traffic law offenders. Policing plan presented also included patrols in rural areas as it has been observed that the taverns in these areas have been problematic in the past as drunken people end up committing crime. Also covered by Protection Services was the planning for fire safety and disaster management.
Cleansing and Maintenance presented on how they have planned for street cleaning, refuse collection and verge cutting during the season. The department has extended provision of services to weekends. Health and Community Services indicated that Beaches will be kept clean at all times and in trying to ensure that there has been more resources deployed for this purpose and there will be extension of operating times.
All the departments emphasized that no employee would be granted leave within the period of 16 November 2009 and 15 January 2010 and that employees have been notified about working overtime.
The Executive Committee was also informed of the envisaged Welcoming Roadblock planned to take place on 15 December 2009.
