Tribute to Cllr BW Ndlovu
Councillor Bheki Wiseman Ndlovu was actively involved in the UDF and trade union movement in the 1980s . When the ANC was unbanned in 1990, he joined as a member of the Mabhinki Branch in Gamalakhe, and was to later become Secretary of that branch. In recognition of his leadership abilities, he was elected onto the Regional Executive Committee of the ANC of the Lower South Coast in 1997, and he continued playing a significant role in that structure as Treasurer until 2008.
When the first democratic local government elections were held in 2000, Bheki Ndlovu joined the Hibiscus Coast municipality as a PR councillor. He was immediately assigned the responsibility to head the then Housing and Estates Portfolio Committee, which was charged with the mammoth responsibility of ensuring decent housing for all. He led this committee until 2006, when he was re-deployed to chair the Finance and Budget Portfolio Committee. He will be sorely missed in Council for the persuasive, incisive and robust discussions he led and facilitated.
Throughout his career, Cllr Ndlovu distinguished himself as a strong, intelligent and caring leader. This is evident in the different positions of influence that he was assigned to, including the Radio Sunny South and Esayidi FET Boards of Directors, where continued to make invaluable contributions.
May his soul rest in peace
